I think it's great you paired some of the dishes with some beers - I've been more and more into various craft beers lately.

To your comment, I don't really have a defined top 5. Urasawa and Providence are my clear 1-2. I just got back from Melisse's most recent seasonal carte blanc.

Having visited Melisse a year ago before, it's apparent that chef Citrin has really begun his pursuit for that third etoille. Compared to the food we had experienced before, he really has taken on more challenging and demanding executions than what I've previously seen. I'm hoping something akin to what happened in Chicago will take place here--some creative defiance here and there, lax enforcement, "free" foie gras, and eventual appeal.kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-39896909053979563262009-03-15T19:07:00.000-07:002009-03-15T19:07:00.000-07:00How do you keep track of all the foreign names you...How do you keep track of all the foreign names you hear throughout the dinner? I think the strength of the foie gras here was due to both the Hudson Valley aspect, and also the skill of the kitchen. Hudson Valley is no panacea, as I've certainly had some not so good preparations of it. Kevin and I did not have gay sex after this very good dinner. He tried super hard, but I wouldn't give it up. Weird thing is...neither of us is even gay. But I do have a man crush on Kevin because of his food pics, as I'm sure many a SUPER straight male (like me) does.

2. I'm not normally a big truffles or truffle oil fan (shoot me) but the truffle egg was one of the best dishes I've had at any restaurant.

3. Kevin is really cool in person and I found out some very interesting facts about this foodie while enjoying our meal. Things such as; Kevin's legal last name is actually "Eats" (how weird is that?) and that Kevin settled on calling his blog his actual full name only after failing miserably with the previous incarnations, "Kevin Eats Stuff" and "Kevin, He'll Eat That".

4. Everyone needs to eat more Hudson Valley seared foie to begin to be swayed that seared is MUCH better than terrine. HV is the key.

5. I'm going to start my own Meetup group in order to find foodies in the L.A. area, since I live here now. If any vivacious female readers of Kevin's blog are interested in dining with me...feel free to head over the to soon to be established "Hot Girls Dine With Sunshine Megatron Free!" group. No, Kevin...you cannot put on a wig and get a free meal again, sorry.Sunshine Megatronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15452089226165172298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-90820403585477282182009-03-10T09:42:00.000-07:002009-03-10T09:42:00.000-07:00I haven't had the Artichoke Soup or Truffle Egg ye...I haven't had the Artichoke Soup or Truffle Egg yet.
