I actually asked if he was around because all that stuff about Sona closing was in the news at the time, so I wanted to ask him myself. Chef Yagi was there, and she did a fantastic job, but my first 3 visits were definitely superior to my last one... -CollierAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-11321831657017552572010-05-17T01:26:19.487-07:002010-05-17T01:26:19.487-07:00Diana: Remember, smaller means it tastes better. ;...Diana: Remember, smaller means it tastes better. ;) Definitely check it out when (if, really) it reopens.

Fiona: Sounds like you had a good experience there (I just re-looked over your post). Haven't made it to Comme Ca yet; how does it compare to the rest of the brasserie-inspired places around LA?

Collier: Was Myers in the kitchen for each of your four visits? I wonder what's going to happen to Perez (and Yagi) during the shutter.kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-65401980190669998922010-05-16T17:19:11.341-07:002010-05-16T17:19:11.341-07:00I am also regretting not returning to Sona before ...I am also regretting not returning to Sona before the closure, my last visit was in October. Myers clearly has some out of the kitchen problems, and a potentially flawed personality, but when he is in the kitchen and working hard, he is one of the better chefs on the West Coast, and definitely in an elite class amongst the nation. Every experience that I had at Sona was always superb (4 visits), so although it is unfortunate that a lot of people hate him and that he clearly has an inconsistent work-ethic, I never let that shit bother me, and always enjoyed his cooking. I wish him luck and look forward to dining at the new Sona location next year (yes, I have faith that he will make this happen). Good review Kevin, I remember Perez being a good pastry chef, but DAMN, I never saw anything that looked as good as what you just had! -CollierAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-88662667276696765602010-05-16T01:09:31.236-07:002010-05-16T01:09:31.236-07:00I'll definitely miss Sona, although granted I ...I'll definitely miss Sona, although granted I haven't been back in a while. Looks like you had a great meal and good to see that he was there (definitely wasn't when I went). I didn't have a chance to return before the shutter and I'm regretting not getting that 14-course dessert tasting ... I do hope he'll reopen another fine dining establishment. I won't go into it all here, but the basic idea is that Myers' arrogance, ego, and refusal to take responsibility are what led to his downfall: not paying suppliers, expanding far too quickly, lacking in leadership, firing staff capriciously, having a very hands off approach to the business, not caring about cost control, breaking promises, very rarely involved with the actual food, not willing to listen to advice, taking credit for others' work, etc.

SC: My first and last meals here were very good; in-between was alright.
