So I'...Thanks for the detailed recommendations!

So I'd heard of both Gunshow and Empire State South prior to my visit, but if I recall, I couldn't get reservations to either of them. I also considered Bacchanalia, but their prix fixe menu is only four courses, which seemed light.

And given my penchant for beer, I actually wanted to check out Porter, but didn't have time to unfortunately. One of my Lyft drivers also recommended the place lol.

Now I will say that it's interesting to hear about your culinary journey; I didn't know that you were in DC as well. I used to go there for work fairly often, but it's been a while.

But yes, we are spoiled here in Los Angeles. I'm convinced that our city has the largest breadth of cuisine anywhere in the country.

As for Kato, I'd say that it was likely my best meal of 2022 thus far, so it appears that Lazy Betty's reign was short-lived. kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-46126731958374332522022-03-30T15:40:45.299-07:002022-03-30T15:40:45.299-07:00Ah work has brought me from Atlanta > Durham &g...Ah work has brought me from Atlanta > Durham > Richmond > DC, but boyfriend and grad school took me to LA. Staplehouse, Better Half, and Porter Beer Bar were my fave restaurants in Altanta but the first two seemed to have closed. I was going to recommend JCT Kitchen for their deviled eggs and cocktails (as I remember you love deviled eggs, and JCT's is the best hands down I've ever had in the south) but they also closed! The thing to do in Atlanta is brunch so even though they're not particularly high end, I sent some recs your way.

I felt like the food in DC was only all right, more pretentious than anything else? The only two restaurants I'd recommend were Rose's Luxury and Pineapple and Pearls, which you've already hit. I like some of Jose Andres' like Minibar and Zaytinya and feel good about supporting JA because he does so much good for the immigrant community and refugees with World Central Kitchen and his congressional work. DC did best in Ethiopian and Peruvian due to the huge diaspora there.

Absolutely spoiled here in LA though, in both food scene and the beautiful weather. I'm so glad to be able to read your blog and go out to the restaurants you write on.

How was Kato btw? Haven't personally been to these but also heard good things: Poor Calvin's, Gato, Sotto Sotto, Cooks & Soldiers, Marcel.

Celeb-driven: Gunshow (Kevin GIllespie's dim sum format place), Empire State South (Hugh Acheson)

Casual/takeout: I always go to Porter Beer Bar for the amazing food and drinks at affordable prices. Their specials and kombucha drinks are not to be missed. Sketchy area though, but it is part of the Atlanta scene.

Heirloom Market BBQ (Korean x American BBQ fusion - I think it's unique only to Atlanta and it's good, but not sure what the hype is), Aviva by Kameel (probably the best Mediterranean I've had in my entire life), Antico Pizza (snobbish service but great pizzas. Porbably on par with Silverston's pizzas)

Atlanta has a very strong brunch scene. Some of these are institutions, some of these are gems: Bistro Niko, The Nook at Piedmont Park, The Pig and The Pearl, West Egg Cafe, Babette's Cafe, Two Urban Licks, Sun in my belly, Revival

Pass on kbbq and sushi, and generally Asian overall. La Mei Zhi has great Taiwanese, a few other gems along Doraville Highway. I find the Asian food scene much stronger here in LA and its suburbs though.

Hopefully I didn't overwhelm you. I saw you went to Fox Bros, and it's a great pick.
Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10650065540860945874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-13407072170555011972022-03-27T23:02:12.752-07:002022-03-27T23:02:12.752-07:00Ah, so what was the reason for your from ATL out t...Ah, so what was the reason for your from ATL out to LA?

And do you have any other recommendations for Atlanta?kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-45643279306651398712022-03-27T15:12:00.077-07:002022-03-27T15:12:00.077-07:00Wow you're in my old hood this time, I'm s...Wow you're in my old hood this time, I'm so glad you had a fab meal in Atlanta. I was surprised to see Mary Mac's but it IS an institution, and super glad you went to Lazy Betty. Funny enough reading these two posts made me pretty homesick for all the good eats down south. I hope you have a great time!Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10650065540860945874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-40904480679859501282022-03-27T07:01:45.110-07:002022-03-27T07:01:45.110-07:00Keep in mind that all prices here are inclusive of...Keep in mind that all prices here are inclusive of service, so $20 is really like $20 ÷ 1.2 = $16.67.kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-10938330335046997902022-03-26T00:57:19.300-07:002022-03-26T00:57:19.300-07:00
