Yes, food poisoning.
I had to leave work in the morning and go to the emergency room because diarrhea got just worse even after three days from the beginning of the symptom. From the blood test and stool test the bacteria campylobacter, a pathogen living in chicken organs and dye when it's cooked was detected.
Since kaiser permanente, my insurance, doesn't recommend prescribing antibacterial pills, severe diarrhea lasted for more than 2 weeks.
The medication costed $1500 and I contacted Shin Sen Gumi for compensation. They never apologize and just repeat "We'll wait for the health department's response". How can the health department inspect the individually cooked yakitori skewers we've already consumed? They don't care about guests' lives and I just really wish I had never eaten at this mediocre, irresponsible, shady restaurant. I've added them to the spreadsheet of restaurants I need to try (Spoon House was already on there).kevinEatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874030588556187843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8667271330300336985.post-17589533529182498342022-03-16T11:01:41.728-07:002022-03-16T11:01:41.728-07:00You're in my neck of the woods! I've found SSG's group of restaurants to be all right, they're consisent but there are better places nowadays (and you've reviewed them, like Torihei and Torimatsu).

There's a few hidden gems I'd recommend if you haven't been yet (cash only, and all super casual):

Sakae Sushi - deceptively simple but I get upset how good the sushi is every time I go. If I get lunch here I know I'm probably going to get it again later in the week. Highly recommend if you need takeout for a picnic or host new year's or something. The rice is literally perfection.

Meiji Tofu - I feel like I've heard you mention Meiji before, but after reading your blog for 10+ years the memories kinda just all blend together. I can't cook tofu dishes anymore if it's not Meiji.

Chikara Mochi - stunning mochi, perfect for omiyage or gifting. On weekends, got to get there before 9:30am or they sell out of the pretty ones.

Sakuraya - more dilapidated looking, but I think the mochi is tastier than Chikara's. I go here if I buy for myself.

(below takes credit)

Spoonhouse - less of a standout than the places above, but it feels like time-traveling back in time and the pasta is al dente every time and simple and addictive. Really old school Italian Japanese fusion. Japanese clam seawood with mushroom pasta, the carbonara, butter and cod roe are my personal favorites.

Curryfornia - everyone else seems to like this place but it was kind of underwhelming for me, but I've only been twice. Have to get here early bc they sell out, and they take forever for orders because it's a one man op.

A little farther south is Aunty Maile's - I don't know if you like Hawaiian but we prefer Aunty Maile's over the Hawaiian we've gotten from the islands. The portions are a bit too much for us so plan to get a big group to share or leave room for leftovers. The poke and desserts aren't that good, just stick to the popular coooked/fried items here.

Happy eating!
Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10650065540860945874noreply@blogger.com
